We are in the commercial broiler farming and chicken meat production line of business because we want to leverage on the vast opportunities available in the agriculture industry, to contribute our quota in growing the Sierra Leone economy, in national food production, and to export live broiler – chicken and processed and packaged chicken from Sierra Leone to other countries of the world.

Scopes Poultry and Fish Farm will also produce fresh, delicious, and quality Catfish and Tilapia fish for households. The fish will be grown in a controlled environment. Aquaculture has the potential to make a significant contribution to food security and income generation in Sierra Leone.

As a fully integrated business, Scopes Poultry and Fish Farm will manage all facets of egg production and processing, including:

  • Breeding and carefully selecting genetic traits
  • Raising superior pullets
  • Providing attentive care for laying hens
  • Inventory control and timely direct store delivery
  • Growing grains for our own feed
  • Blending feed to specialized formulas (feed mill)
  • Producing and distributing dried fertilizer products

The company also supports independent family farms by purchasing their grain as feed — both organic and conventional. We also partner with small farms throughout the country that produce organic and cage-free eggs to our strict standards.

chicken

The quality of chicken that you get at the store these days is getting worse. There is a big difference between chicken raised on pasture and what you find on the shelf at the store.

Pastured poultry is:

  • better for the environment
  • better for the chickens
  • better for us meat eaters

Break free of the limited options at the store and take matters into your own hands. No other area of agriculture can give you such high-quality protein in such a short amount of time. Get your own birds from the egg to the oven in 8 weeks!

Few things are as rewarding as enjoying a gourmet, 5-star, farm-to-table meal on some random weekday because you get your chicken from Scopes Pastured Poultry.

Chickens raised on Scopes Poultry and Fish farm grass:

  • taste remarkably better
  • don’t need antibiotics
  • have a higher level of Omega 3 Fatty ACIDS
  • have more beta carotene

Alright, alright, so you’re already sold on how great pastured poultry can be, what do you do next? Two options: (1) Buy your meat from Scopes Poultry and Fish farm, (2) Join Scopes Poultry and Fish farm operation, we want our live broiler- chickens and well processed and packaged chicken meat to flood the nooks and crannies of Sierra Leone and other countries of the world.

DUCK

Duck is an excellent nutrient-dense protein filled with essential and non-essential amino acids, containing less saturated fat than most red meats. In addition to this, duck meat is high in:

  • B-12 and other B vitamins
  • niacin
  • iron
  • selenium
  • omega-3 fatty acids

Duck fat is a healthier cooking option than butter, lard, or tallow.

PEKIN DUCK

PEKIN DUCKS

The most popular duck breed for meat is the Pekin. This breed available in two varieties, standard and jumbo, both ideal for meat consumption. In addition, Pekin ducks lay up to 200 eggs per year. Therefore, Scopes Poultry and Fish farm will raise both breeds.

Pekin ducks are a multi-purpose breed, meaning they have traditionally been raised for egg and meat production. The docile and sometimes affectionate nature of Pekin ducks has also earned them intense popularity to keep simply as a farm pet along with chickens.

MUSCOVY DUCK

MUSCOVY DUCK

Muscovy ducks are great for meat and eggs. The females can lay eggs 3 times a year. When young, these ducks are considered very good eating, with lean, tender meat, with a taste more like veal than other duck.

The Muscovy duck meat is fat-free, and it is also less greasy than the meat from other types of ducks such as mallards, whistling ducks, and Canvasbacks.

Muscovy duck has a unique taste: it is lean, meaty, tender and flavorful. A 4 lb. Muscovy has the highest yield of any duck available and 50 percent more breast meat than other ducks.
Muscovy breast meat is 99 percent lean and the skin of our duck has 50% less fat than the Moulard or Pekin varieties

Guinea Fowl

Guinea Fowl

Guinea fowl is considered a luxury food. You can find it on the menus of upscale French and Oriental restaurants.

Guinea fowl birds can also be raised for meat and egg production. There are three main varieties of Guinea fowl raised pearl, white, and lavender.

Guinea meat is darker and richer tasting than chicken, and it contains less fat and fewer calories. Guineas are also smaller-boned than chickens, but have heavier breasts, making them meatier than they look. The average bird dresses out to 75 percent of its live weight–five percent more than the 70 percent average for a broiler chicken.

Meat Production

The meat is lean, rich in essential fatty acids with fewer calories, rich in vitamins, high protein and breast meat yield is about 25% of live-weight with an excellent meat to bone ratio. Though, their meat is darker than chicken meat.
